Continuous Professional Learning:
1. Children:
SMART Goal:
In order to support children’s social, emotional, and communication development, I will intentionally implement at least one structured and one open-ended play-based learning experience each day that encourages interaction, collaboration, and self-expression among children, beginning in my first month of employment.
Strategy 1:
-
Use open ended questions, modelling, and language scaffolding during play to support children in expressing their thoughts, emotions, and ideas clearly.
Strategy 2:
-
Create small group and partner-based experiences that promote turn-taking, cooperation, and positive peer interactions while supporting different developmental levels.
2. Families:
SMART Goal:
In order to build strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships with families, I will engage in consistent daily communication and provide at least one detailed weekly update that highlights children’s learning, development, and experiences, beginning in my first month of employment.
Strategy 1:
- Establish positive daily interactions with families through greetings, conversations, and sharing meaningful observations about their children’s day.
Strategy 2:
- Use communication tools such as written notes, digital platforms, or documentation panels to share children’s progress, interests, and learning experiences in a clear and accessible way.
3. Colleagues:
SMART Goal:
In order to collaborate effectively and contribute to a positive and professional team environment, I will actively participate in weekly team meetings and share at least one observation, idea, or reflection related to children’s learning and development, beginning in my first month of employment.
Strategy 1:
-
Engage in open communication by actively listening to colleagues, respecting diverse perspectives, and contributing thoughtfully during discussions.
Strategy 2:
-
Share observations and collaborate on planning experiences that are responsive to children’s interests and developmental needs.
4. Community:
SMART Goal:
In order to support children’s understanding of and connection to their community, I will incorporate at least one community-based learning experience, discussion, or resource each week that reflects real-world connections and diverse perspectives, beginning in my first month of employment.
Strategy 1:
- Introduce children to community helpers, cultural practices, and local environments through books, discussions, and play-based activities.
Strategy 2:
- Plan experiences that connect children to their surroundings, such as nature exploration, neighbourhood awareness, or discussions about community roles.
5. Environment:
SMART Goal:
In order to create a responsive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, I will intentionally organize, adapt, and rotate classroom materials and learning areas on a weekly basis to reflect children’s interests, developmental needs, and diverse abilities, beginning in my first month of employment.
Strategy 1:
- Observe children’s interests and engagement levels to guide decisions about materials, layout, and learning areas within the environment.
Strategy 2:
- Ensure that materials are accessible, culturally inclusive, and adaptable to support all children in participating independently and confidently.
